Description

SS 31, also known as Elamipretide, is a research grade, cell permeable tetrapeptide studied for its ability to target the inner mitochondrial membrane.

Its alternating aromatic and positively charged structure allows SS 31 to interact with cardiolipin, a specialized phospholipid involved in maintaining mitochondrial membrane organization, electron transport chain function, and ATP production.

In laboratory models, SS 31 is used to investigate mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen species generation, electron transport efficiency, cristae structure, and mitochondrial protein complex stability.
